India says Monsanto covertly, illegally conducted GM corn trials without approval

Recent reports out of India say that multinational biotechnology giant Monsanto has once against skirted the law by clandestinely planting its genetically-modified (GM) corn without receiving approval to do so. Nitish Kumar, chief minister of the Indian state of Bihar, recently wrote a letter to India’s environment minister Jairam Ramesh explaining the situation. Just days earlier, Ramesh had denied Monsanto permission to plant the crops at all. (more…)

Strategies needed to resist GMOs successfully

Many of us have come to realize that petitions to stall Monsanto`s march to world food domination are ineffective. It doesn`t matter whether the petitions go to any of the alphabet soup government agencies, Congress, or the White House. They are ultimately simply ignored. Why? Because they`re all in on it. Monsanto has key personnel in the USDA and FDA, installed by the president himself.

So what can be done? There are other strategies. But these strategies to save our food supply from ultimate ruin need to be coordinated by an international non-government organization (NGO) that currently does not exist. (more…)

Got (the Right) Milk? Understanding the Milk Controversy

Perhaps one of the most controversial dietary topics amongst whole foodies today, aside from grain, is cow’s milk.

On one hand, there are the die-heart supporters – the Weston Price, Sally Fallon, and Tom Cowan followers who consider raw milk a curative for a host of ailments, from allergies to heart disease.  On the other, there are those that say milk, regardless of it being raw, is not meant for human consumption.  These folks point out that human beings are the only mammals that still consume milk after infancy, and the digestive characteristics of a calf are very different than that of a human’s, hence not an appropriate fit.

Those who advocate drinking raw milk are also in contention with supporters of pasteurization.  Within pasteurized varieties, one finds consumers of both commercial and commercial organic milk. And more recently, a debate is growing amongst the raw milk community over A1 and A2 cows. Then there are those that prefer to drink only kefir milk.

The following article will give a brief overview and dissemination of what these various milk identities are, and some of the pros and cons attributed to them:

Is canola oil healthy?

With National Nutrition Month underway, a big question to ask yourself is “Am I cooking with the right oils”?  I’m sure everyone reading this right now has thought about that at least one hundred times before, but in order to keep you and your family healthy you have to be one hundred percent sure you are doing the right thing. With all of the controversy over the past 4-5 years about what fats and oils to eat, stay away from, and simply just avoid at all costs, I don’t blame you for being confused. Just recently (not so recently, studies have been out for years) a few studies have surfaced over the horrible issues arising with the use of Canola oil. I ask you though, what is Canola oil and where does it come from? (more…)

Genetically-modified, oil eating bacteria creating dangerous mutant organisms in Gulf

Even the most creative science fiction movie could not have concocted the reality of what is taking place both in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world right now. Genetically-modified (GM), oil-eating bacteria introduced into the Gulf as part of the oil disaster’s remediation efforts is reportedly causing the emergence of various other mutant bacteria, as well as increasingly-severe harm to humans and the environment. "Unscientific" is secret code for anyone who opposes GMO's or pesticides

Watch out for the word “unscientific” in propaganda that’s pushing GMOs, pesticides or other dangerous chemicals onto our world. In a joint letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, three Republican members of Congress (Rep. Frank Lucas, Sen. Saxby Chambliss, Sen. Pat Roberts) attempted to spin GMOs as being “scientific.” (more…)

GM chicken- scientists created flu-resistant chickens that may end up on your dinner table

In a new wave of scientifically altered creations, scientists have created genetically modified chickens that do not transmit bird flu to other chickens. The chickens, while unable to transmit the disease, may still suffer from the disease themselves. The genetic manipulation process tampers with the very DNA of the chicken, challenging the safety of its meat. Of course there is no mention in the scientific literature as to whether these GM chickens will soon be showing up on your dinner table — or if they already have.
