Sun exposure reduces pancreatic cancer risk by nearly 50 percent

The health benefits of vitamin D are almost becoming too numerous to count, with yet another new study presented at the recent American Association for Cancer Research Pancreatic Cancer Conference in Lake Tahoe, Nev., shedding light on the hormone’s specific anti-cancer benefits. According to the groundbreaking research, individuals exposed to natural sunlight, which is the most abundant source of natural vitamin D, are nearly 50 percent less likely to develop pancreatic cancer than others who are not exposed. How to avoid pancreatic cancer

They’re called “trace” elements for a reason. Tiny amounts of the right stuff can boost your health and save your life. While even a drop of the wrong stuff can end it.

Now, the latest research shows how these same trace elements can play a major role in your risk of getting or avoiding one of the deadliest forms of cancer on the planet — the pancreatic cancer that’s claimed Steve Jobs, Luciano Pavarotti and Patrick Swayze in recent years.

Let’s start with the good stuff: selenium and nickel. (more…)

Lipoic Acid : Slow Aging and Repair Damage

Step by step researchers are documenting that lipoic acid protects every organ in the human body. The latest findings are that lipoic acid offers powerful protector against diabetic polyneuropathy and nephropathy (peripheral nerve disease and kidney disease resulting from damage to small blood vessels). It is also a great defender of brain tissue, and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and neuro-protective capabilities that make if effective in slowing the aging of the brain and treating Alzheimer’s disease. Other recent research shows that lipoic acid prevents the development and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and protects retina ganglion against glaucoma. (more…)

Olive And Fish Oil Found To Potentially Prevent Pancreatitis

There seem to be more and more reasons to consume oils that contain healthy fats. For example, researchers from the University of Granada in Spain have discovered that oleic acid and hydroxytyrosol, which can be found in virgin olive oil and fatty acids in fish, can prevent the development of acute pancreatitis.

Pancreatitis is a disease that is believed to be caused by an oxidative-inflammatory process happening in the body. Researchers found that the antioxidants inside olive and fish oils seems to prevent this process from occurring. According to the study authors, it all comes down to what a person is eating.

“There is increasing evidence that there are oxidative-inflammatory processes involved in the origin of chronic diseases [such as pancreatitis] and that diet plays an important role in such processes,” said researcher María Belén López Millán.

Turmeric spice could have cured pancreatic cancer that killed Steve Jobs, suggests oncologist

Though it has the highest mortality rate of all forms of cancer, pancreatic cancer is largely preventable and treatable through simple dietary and lifestyle changes, says Dr. Robert Wascher, MD, a surgical oncologist from California. In a recent interview with Newsmax Health Wascher explained how the simple act of consuming turmeric, a natural spice popular in Asian and Indian food, may be enough to prevent and cure the type of pancreatic cancer that afflicted former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, as well as other forms.

Pterostilbene

Remarkable Resveratrol Relative

Resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes, wine, peanuts, some berries and Giant Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum), has emerged as one of the most potent natural substances to promote optimal health. Yet, the newest research is focusing on a highly bioavailable derivative of resveratrol known as pterostilbene (pronounced tare-oh-still-bean), which has powerful health-promoting properties similar to its parent compound. Pterostilbene: A Cholesterol and Blood Sugar Improving Anti-Cancer Nutrient

Pterostilbene, like its cousin resveratrol, is gaining world-wide attention for its rather dramatic ability to improve human health, protect against the diseases of aging, and extend lifespan1.

Pterostilbene is found in small amounts in blueberries and grapes, but the most cost effective source is from the bark and heartwood of a tree that grows in India and Sri Lanka (Pterocarpus marsupium or Indian Kino Tree).  (more…)
