I am a sun worshiper. I admit it. I love the feel of the sun on my skin and I love how I feel after being in the sun. I believe that blocking the sun’s rays can be detrimental to your health and use of sunscreen can be harmful. Sunbathing and sun exposure is part of being healthy when practiced with some common sense.

The idea that sunscreen prevents cancer is a falsity promoted by a profit-seeking tag-team effort between the cancer industry and the sunscreen industry. How convenient an oversight by these demonizers of the sun that people closest to the equator have the lowest incidence of skin cancer, but you’ll never hear that message on your local news. Instead, as the summer approaches the media bombards us daily with myths that blocking the sun’s rays from reaching our skin will somehow protect us from the one thing it actually prevents–cancer.

Blocking the sun’s rays from reaching our skin dramatically influences our optimal vitamin D levels, leading to higher mortality, critical illness and mental health disorders. Ironically, sunscreen itself causes cancer.

‘D’ Best Seasonal Supplement What Vitamin D can do for you

(Nov. 7, 2006)–What if a pill could lower your risk of cancer by as much as 70%? Vitamin D may be that magic medicine. University of California San Diego researchers analyzed national cancer deaths between 1950 and 1969 and again between 1970 and 1994–when people began staying out of the sun and wearing more sunscreen. (Our bodies require sunlight to make vitamin D.) Their comparison suggests that getting enough D could drive down mortality rates of 16 types of cancer–including breast and ovarian–by anywhere from 2 to 70%.

“Hundreds of lab studies show that vitamin D can stop cancer cells from proliferating and promote the death of tumor cells,” says lead author William B. Grant, PhD. Experts now recommend that people get 1,000 IU of vitamin D a day in summer, and as much as 2,000 IU in winter when the sun is much weaker. Getting that amount from your diet is tough. Your best bet is to take 1,500 IU daily in supplement form.

Here’s something I never thought we’d hear in this lifetime:

We suspect that the benefits to heart health of sunlight will outweigh the risk of skin cancer.

A lot of us are secretly, boldly basking for reasons like vitamin D, mood enhancement, happiness, skin issues, liver health, pain and more. Now there’s never a reason to fear harm or feel guilty – you could save your heart – and prevent an untimely death!

The espoused fear for about 50 years has been skin cancer rates (which continue to rise), but researchers are finally surmising that years of hiding from the sun could lead to increased heart attacks – a much sooner demise than the risk of skin cancer in later years. Sunlight does so much more than vitamin D production.

Vitamin D, omega-3 may help clear amyloid plaques found in Alzheimer’s

A team of academic researchers has pinpointed how vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids may enhance the immune system’s ability to clear the brain of amyloid plaques, one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.

In a small pilot study published in the Feb. 5 issue of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, the scientists identified key genes and signaling networks regulated by vitamin D3 and the omega-3 fatty acid DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) that may help control inflammation and improve plaque clearance. Low vitamin D levels proven to be deadly, increase mortality

The most comprehensive epidemiological review ever conducted on the association between vitamin D and mortality has revealed that low vitamin D levels are directly linked to early death from heart disease and other causes. Published in the journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis Vascular, Biology, the study found that individuals with the lowest vitamin D levels have a significantly higher risk of developing ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction (MI), or fatal ischemic heart disease and MI, or dying an early death, compared to individuals with the highest vitamin D levels.
