Iodine and Breast Health: 6 Things You Need to Know

Healthy Breast

The necessity of Iodine isn’t exclusive to the thyroid, the entire body needs it. You might say that your body requires iodine the way a car requires oil — it’s simply necessary for the entire system to function properly. Many people don’t realize that female breast tissue has a greater concentration of iodine and has a special need for iodine. When breast tissue has low iodine levels, health problems can follow. Let’s take a look at the top six things you need to know regarding iodine and its impact on breast health. (more…)

BPA Harms At Much Lower Levels Than Previously Thought

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical found in most plastics, cans, and other types of food and drink packaging as well as money, receipts and newer kinds of dental resins. It is a known endocrine disruptor that hijacks normal hormone function – it is often called a gender-bending substance for its estrogen-inducing effects on lab mice.

It has been linked to obesity, infertility and reproductive disorders in both genders, breast cancer, behavioral problems, and more. Earlier this year, its damaging effects on neuro-development were scrutinized and it was shown to cause brain impairment. Two years ago, a Harvard study found a whopping 1200% spike in BPA levels in the urine of people who had recently eaten canned soup. (more…)

Flaxseed Can Prevent And Kill Breast Cancer, Meta-Analysis Reveals

Flaxseed Can Prevent And Kill Breast Cancer, Meta-Analysis Reveals

As we edge closer towards Breast Cancer Awareness month,[1] one cause that most likely won’t be marketed to us is that of women taking back control of their health by consuming more cancer-fighting foods.  In years past, Smith & Wesson’s pink hand gun and KFC’s “buckets for the cure,”[2] have made the list of approved ‘pink’ products, but nowhere does one find fund-raisers and races for better access to and consumption of the extensive list of foods that increasingly science has vetted as actually preventing and/or killing breast cancer. [3]

All the more reason why a new meta-analysis on flaxseed and breast cancer published in the journal Integrative Cancer Therapy this month is so timely.[4] The review was no small undertaking, as it obtained its findings by sorting through 1,892 records from a variety of biomedical databases, including MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and AMED from inception to January 2013, concerning any available human interventional or observational data pertaining to flax and breast cancer. Antibiotics & Cancer: No Connection or Biased Research?

When a study showed that antibiotics are associated with breast cancer, the authors did another study that appears to be an attempt to disprove their earlier results. Other studies that claim to find no association are deeply flawed. Clearly, the goals are not to find the truth or improve health. Evidence based medicine is based on intentionally flawed science.

Back in 2004, a study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) documented a direct relationship between breast cancer and antibiotic use.[1] After a brief flurry, the study quietly faded from the public’s—and modern medicine’s—consciousness.

This was their conclusion:

In summary, we found that increased use of antibiotics was associated with increased risk of incident and fatal breast cancer for a variety of antibiotic classes. (more…)

Blood Pressure Drugs Increase Risk for Breast Cancer

Blood Pressure Drugs Increase Risk for Breast Cancer

Introduction:

More than 60 million Americans have high blood pressure (high BP) including more than half (54.3%) of all Americans age 65 to 74 years old and almost three quarters (71.8%) of all American blacks in the same age group. High BP is a major risk factor for a heart attack or stroke. In fact, it is generally regarded as the most significant risk factor for a stroke.

Drugs to lower blood pressure are among the most commonly prescribed medicines in the U.S. More than 678 million blood pressure prescriptions were filled in 2010. All of the current classes of blood pressure lowering drugs possess significant side effects. A new study indicates that women taking blood pressure lowering drugs called calcium-channel blockers, like Norvasc (amlodipine) for 10 years or more had a 2.5 times higher risk of developing breast cancer than those who never took the medicine or who used other blood pressure treatments. Millions Wrongly Treated for ‘Cancer,’ National Cancer Institute Panel Confirms

Millions Wrongly Treated for 'Cancer,' National Cancer Institute Panel Confirms

A devastating new report commissioned by the National Cancer Institute reveals that our 40-year long ‘War on Cancer’ has been waged against a vastly misunderstood ‘enemy,’ that in many cases represented no threat to human health whatsoever.

If you have been following our advocacy work on cancer, particularly in connection with the dark side of breast cancer awareness month, you know that we have been calling for the complete reclassification of some types of ‘breast cancer’ as benign lesions, e.g. ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), as well as pointing out repeatedly that x-ray based breast screenings are not only highly carcinogenic but are also causing an epidemic of “overdiagnosis” and “overtreatment” in US women, with an estimated 1.3 million cases in the past 30 years alone. Broccoli Kills The Stem Cells That Make Cancers Immortal

This is an important review of one of the most amazing findings of our time — broccoli extract was found to kill the “beating heart” of cancerous tumors, the cancer stem cells that are even resistant to chemo and radiation treatment.

This video illustrates this theory of cancer biology—cancer stem cells—and the role played by sulforaphane, a phytonutrient produced by cruciferous vegetables.

Iodine: A Breast Cancer Cure?

 Iodine: Breast Cancer Cure?

Could iodine be a breast cancer cure?

One of my good friends died last year of breast cancer. She was in her 40s. Nowadays, none of us are immune. One in 8 women in the US are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Iodine: Breast Cancer Cure?

I’ve been reading the new book, The Iodine Crisis: What You Don’t Know About Iodine Can Wreck Your Life by Lynne Farrow, founder of BreastCancerchoices.org. (Look for my review on the blog soon.)

Here are some interesting quotes from the book:

Breast cancer rates have risen since the 1970s as iodine consumption decreased and anti-iodine bromine exposure increased.

Bromide pesticides and fire retardants will wind up being the new DDT, a pesticide banned in 1972, is still present in the breast tissue of women born later than that date. If the underlying cause of thyroid, breast and other hormone-driven diseases is iodine deficiency, then bromide dominance is the underlying cause of that deficiency.
