DEET is a very common and dangerous chemical used in conventional insect repellents for use directly on the skin. It’s known to cause short- and long-term health effects including brain cell death and behavioral changes, especially in children. There are plenty of natural ways to deter insects and also relieve insect bites without the use of any chemicals. Learn toxic-free methods of protecting yourself and your family from insects this summer.

6 Quick Ways To Relieve Insect Bites

1. BANANA PEELS
Treat the area first with soap and water, and then hold the inside (meat side) of the banana peel on the bite for 5-7 minutes, rubbing the peel onto the skin occasionally. The banana peel should relieve the itch and dry the skin out quickly.

2. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
When you first notice the itchy bite, try applying a small amount of apple cider vinegar directly to the affected area. If you have many bites, you may want to take a very hot bath in a tub filled with water and up to 3 cups of the vinegar. You’re best to use organic apple cider vinegar whenever possible.

3. LEMON SLICE
Both lemons and lemon juice work very well to relieve insect bites. Even the peel from a lemon or lime will work effectively and keep the wound from becoming infected.

4. BAKING SODA
A very simple and effective remedy for mosquito bites is to make a thick paste of baking soda and water and then apply it generously to the affected area. You should feel the swelling and itching subside shortly afterwards.

5. LAVENDER AND TEA TREE OILS
Both lavender and tea tree oils work exceptionally well to temporarily relieve bites. Others include rosemary, neem, and witch hazel. Take a small amount and dilute it with water, then apply directly to the bite.

6. ONION SLICE
Other than making you produce tears, a fresh slice of onion can also help take the sting out of a bite. Simply place a fresh slice on the affected area for several minutes until the itching subsides. Be sure to wash the area thoroughly afterwards.

Natural Insect Repellent Recipe

Need a natural insect repellent without DEET? you’ll get a more effective repellent if you combine a few different insect-repelling natural oils. If you are making large amounts of insect repellent, a good rule of thumb is to mix the repellent so it’s 5-10% essential oil, so mix 1 part essential oil with 10-20 parts carrier oil or alcohol. For a smaller batch use:

10-25 drops (total) of essential oils

2 tablespoons of a carrier oil or alcohol

The essential oils that work well against biting insects (mosquitoes, flies, ticks, fleas) are:

cinnamon oil (mosquitoes)

lemon eucalyptus or regular eucalyptus oil (mosquitoes, ticks, and lice)

citronella oil (mosquitoes and biting flies)

castor oil (mosquitoes)

orange oil (fleas)

rose geranium (ticks and lice)

Safe carrier oils and alcohols include:

olive oil

sunflower oil

any other cooking oil

witch hazel

vodka

Mix the essential oil with the carrier oil or alcohol. Rub or spray the natural insect repellent onto skin or clothing, using care to avoid the sensitive eye area. You’ll need to re-apply the natural product after about an hour or after swimming or exercise. Unused natural insect repellent may be stored in a dark bottle, away from heat or sunlight. If you wish, you may combine the oil with aloe vera gel to change the consistency of the product.

Researchers report that a single, 20-minute session of yoga significantly improved participants’ speed and accuracy on tests of working memory and inhibitory control, two measures of brain function associated with the ability to maintain focus and take in, retain and use new information. Participants performed significantly better immediately after the yoga practice than after moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise for the same amount of time.

Emotions such as anger may have a significant impact on the body’s physiological response to the situation that elicits the emotion which affect memory and focus. Few activities can alter that state better than meditation and yoga.

Yoga also has a profound effecct on the body. It is designed to relax muscles and help improve musculoskeletal fitness. “If you attempt to incorporate calorie-burning elements in a yoga session you may compromise the essential purpose and beneficial effects of the practice,” said exercise physiologist Dr. Cedric X. Bryant.

Research also suggests that yoga might counteract stress; reduce heart rate and blood pressure; increase lung capacity; improve muscle relaxation and body composition; help with conditions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia; improve overall physical fitness, strength, and flexibility; positively affect levels of certain brain or blood chemicals.

The 30 subjects in this study were young, female, undergraduate students. The new findings appear in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.

“Yoga is an ancient Indian science and way of life that includes not only physical movements and postures but also regulated breathing and meditation,” said Neha Gothe, who led the study while a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Gothe now is a professor of kinesiology, health and sport studies at Wayne State University in Detroit. “The practice involves an active attentional or mindfulness component but its potential benefits have not been thoroughly explored.”

“Yoga is becoming an increasingly popular form of exercise in the U.S. and it is imperative to systematically examine its health benefits, especially the mental health benefits that this unique mind-body form of activity may offer,” said Illinois kinesiology and community health professor Edward McAuley, who directs the Exercise Psychology Laboratory where the study was conducted.

The yoga intervention involved a 20-minute progression of seated, standing and supine yoga postures that included isometric contraction and relaxation of different muscle groups and regulated breathing. The session concluded with a meditative posture and deep breathing.

Participants also completed an aerobic exercise session where they walked or jogged on a treadmill for 20 minutes. Each subject worked out at a suitable speed and incline of the treadmill, with the goal of maintaining 60 to 70 percent of her maximum heart rate throughout the exercise session.

“This range was chosen to replicate previous findings that have shown improved cognitive performance in response to this intensity,” the researchers reported.

Gothe and her colleagues were surprised to see that participants showed more improvement in their reaction times and accuracy on cognitive tasks after yoga practice than after the aerobic exercise session, which showed no significant improvements on the working memory and inhibitory control scores.

“It appears that following yoga practice, the participants were better able to focus their mental resources, process information quickly, more accurately and also learn, hold and update pieces of information more effectively than after performing an aerobic exercise bout,” Gothe said. “The breathing and meditative exercises aim at calming the mind and body and keeping distracting thoughts away while you focus on your body, posture or breath. Maybe these processes translate beyond yoga practice when you try to perform mental tasks or day-to-day activities.”

Many factors could explain the results, Gothe said. “Enhanced self-awareness that comes with meditational exercises is just one of the possible mechanisms. Besides, meditation and breathing exercises are known to reduce anxiety and stress, which in turn can improve scores on some cognitive tests,” she said.

“We only examined the effects of a 20-minute bout of yoga and aerobic exercise in this study among female undergraduates,” McAuley said. “However, this study is extremely timely and the results will enable yoga researchers to power and design their interventions in the future. We see similar promising findings among older adults as well. Yoga research is in its nascent stages and with its increasing popularity across the globe, researchers need to adopt rigorous systematic approaches to examine not only its cognitive but also physical health benefits across the lifespan.”

In a study done by Ohio State University researchers and reported in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, they showed that women who routinely practiced yoga had lower amounts of the cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) in their blood.

Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and McLean Hospital have found that practicing yoga may elevate brain gamma-aminobutyric (GABA) levels, the brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter. The results suggest that the practice of yoga be explored as a possible treatment for depression and anxiety, disorders associated with low GABA levels.

Studies supported by NIH have been investigating yoga’s effects on blood pressure, chronic low-back pain, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, depression, diabetes risk, HIV, immune function, inflammatory arthritis and knee osteoarthritis, insomnia, multiple sclerosis, smoking cessation.

Systemic proteolytic enzymes have been used successfully for many different illnesses as I explained previously. When it comes to cancer treatment, the history gets a bit scandalous — and very interesting. But you should know how systemic enzyme therapy works to reduce cancer growth, the key people and historical facts behind the story and where things stand today.

Dr. James Beard

In 1902, James Beard, a well-known Scottish Ph.D. embryologist, observed that animal placental embryonic cells (today we call them stem cells) invade the female uterus in many ways like cancer’s invasion of body tissues. Cancer cells are essentially trophoblastic cells (embryonic cells) that can occur in any organ tissue, and, like placental trophoblastic cells, grow very rapidly, migrate, invade other tissues, and form a blood supply of their own. The main difference is that the placenta knows when to stop growing and invading, but cancer does not.

Dr. Beard found that the placenta stops invasive cell growth when the embryonic pancreas starts secreting pancreatic enzymes. From this observation, he determined that pancreatic enzymes control and kill cancer.

In 1906 he used animal pancreatic enzymes to successfully treat cancer in animals and humans. But his work was not published in mainstream medical literature.

William Donald Kelley, D.D.S., M.S. (1925 – 2005)

Dr. Kelley was a practicing dentist who was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer and successfully survived using the dietary teachings of Max Gerson, M.D., and Dr. Beard’s pancreatic enzyme therapy protocol. Pancreatic cancer is known to have less than a 3 percent survival rate today.

In 1969, Dr. Kelley published an account of his own personal battle with pancreatic cancer and a theoretical explanation of why his protocol worked. Entitled One Answer to Cancer, his book became a best-seller in the “underground” natural medicine market.

Dr. Kelley used his diet modification/proteolytic enzyme protocol and reported a 93 percent success rate for cancer patients who came to him first (before having chemo, radiation, or surgery), and a 50 percent chance of survival for end-stage cancer patients given 3 months to live.

He, as you might expect, was aggressively persecuted for his successes by the medical establishment.

In 1976 the Texas Dental Board suspended his license for 5 years as a result of the “non-dental” cancer therapies he provided. He moved his practice to Tijuana, Mexico and eventually, along with his fellow practitioners, treated approximately 33,000 patients.

In the U.S., Dr. Kelley’s work was suppressed and he was forbidden to advise cancer victims. He tells his own story of cancer and recovery here.

Unfortunately, his story is quite similar to many others who successfully treat cancer in the U.S. (like Dr. Raymond Rife and Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski).

Dr. Kelley wrote: “In our time, there will never be a cure for heart disease or for cancer because there’s just too much money in it for the elite. Between the AMA, the hospitals, pharmaceutical and drug manufacturers, the money wheel never stops turning — and those who suffer needlessly are bankrupted.”

Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D.

Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez is currently a practicing physician in New York. When he was only a third year medical student he personally met with Dr. Kelley, was allowed to completely review his clinic records, and wrote a detailed summary of Dr. Kelley’s almost unbelievable successes with cancer treatment. You can read this fascinating 2009 recount of the entire story and the scandalous actions of the OTA (office of Technology Assessment) here.

Most notably, Dr. Gonzalez writes:

“The pancreatic part of my investigation proved to be most revealing. I eventually identified 22 patients with the diagnosis who had consulted Kelley between 1974 and 1982. I had been able to document that ten of the patients, all deceased, had not followed the program for a single day. This group, we agreed, could serve as an informal ‘control.’ A second group of seven patients, also all deceased, complied only partially and for limited time periods ranging from four weeks to 13 months, before abandoning the therapy. The mean and median survival for this group ran 302 days, certainly far longer than would be expected. Five patients, all alive when I completed my research, had complied fully. The median and mean survival for this group exceeded eight years, certainly a remarkable statistic in view of the deadly nature of pancreatic cancer, with an average life expectancy reported in the range of 3 to 6 months.”

Cancer Therapy

Dr. Gonzalez, along with Dr. Linda Isaacs, has been in practice in New York since 1987, offering personalized therapy for cancer and other degenerative diseases. Their treatment program is found here. The supplements they recommend (but do not manufacture or sell) include many nutrients, animal glandulars, and “a specially manufactured pancreas product (containing naturally occurring enzymes) made from pig pancreas.” Their cancer patients take up to 45 grams of pancreas product, which is around 130-175 capsules a day.

Today various alternative medicine clinics also use the Kelley protocol. For a list and description of these, go here.

It’s interesting to see that our government’s NCI (National Cancer Institute) currently has their view of Dr. Gonzalez posted on their website.

They detail the failure of his protocol to be effective based on their seven year clinical study, beginning in 1998, of patients with early, middle and advanced stages of pancreatic cancer who were not candidates for surgical removal of the cancer. They reported their results in a 2010 Journal of Oncology. If you will simply read a little further you’ll discover the fiasco of study errors (intentionally botched to prove Gonazalez wrong) their researchers made, which was clearly explained and reported by Dr. Gonzalez. You can see his rebuttal here.

What I find interesting is that proteolytic enzyme therapy has already been shown in the medical literature to have potent anticancer effects. In a 1990 Journal of Experimental Pathology[i], researchers used every other day enzyme therapy on mice with tumors for six months and found it “…showed suppression of growth, and necrosis (and in some cases encapsulation)” and that in the higher concentrations, “…cellular necrosis occurred within three days …” This sheds further light on the real motives of cancer science in America.

[i] Belzer CA, Cavon JF.
Since the 1970′s, Sister Noella who is a Benedictine nun has been making raw cheese on the abbey farm. This is not just any cheese; but one of France’s most prized cheeses: Saint- Nectaire. It is a semi-solid, fungal ripened cheese made from raw milk that has been the pride of France’s Auvergne region since the seventeenth century.

The problem is, Sister Noella’s abbey is in Connecticut, and according to the FDA, raw cheese is illegal. The FDA indicates that cheese must be made in a sterile environment in stainless steel containers.

According to Sister Noella, on the other hand, Saint-Nectaire must be made in an ancient wooded barrel and stirred with a wooden spoon (her particular spoon boasts a carved cross on the paddle). In short, nothing about her cheese room was sterile or ever could be, and the FDA took notice.

So, in her thirties, Sister Noella went back to school to get a Ph.D. in microbiology in hopes that she could prove to the FDA that her cheese is safe.

Ph.D. in tow, she made two batches of cheese. The first she made in sterile stainless steel containers with pasteurized milk, while the second batch mimicked her original method: unsterile room with an unsterile barrel and unsterile spoon and, of course, raw milk.

Here’s the clincher: into both batches, she introduced a significant amount of E. coli – a toxic bacteria.

Once the cheeses were ready for consumption, she tested them for bacteria levels. The cheese made in sterile containers had high levels of E. coli, while the cheese made in the wooden barrel had next to none.

Interestingly, we all have E. coli in our gut from time to time. In a healthy gut with lots of good microbes, the introduction of E. coli will rally the good bugs to knock out the pathogens. In Sister Noella’s wooden barrel, the good bacteria hidden in the old crevices of the wood outperformed the bad bugs.

Since then, the FDA has left her alone to continue making her raw, unsterile cheese.

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease are both inflammatory bowel diseases that bring both misery and torment to the people diagnosed with them. These diseases drastically shorten both their quality and quantity of life. With proper diagnosis, information, and treatment, patients with these diseases can overcome their disorders.

Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is Ulcerative Colitis’s cousin and is an inflammatory disease of the entire digestive system, unlike Ulcerative Colitis which is generally only found in the colon. A person with Crohn’s disease has a lot of different symptoms which can make diagnosis of the disease difficult. This can make it a long time before a patient with Crohn’s is discovered and treated. The average age of disease onset in a patient who has Crohn’s disease is between the ages of 15 and 30.

Patients with Crohn’s disease have differing exaggerations and symptoms of their disease. Some digestive symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea usually without blood, increased risk of gallstones, frequent bowel movements (even more than twenty per day sometimes), bloating, and weight loss. Systemic symptoms include arthritis, inflammation of the eyes (uveitis, episcleritis), skin inflammation or infection, depression, oral disorders, and nutritional difficulties.

Tests used in the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease include blood tests for anemia or infection, stool sample to check for excess white blood cells or pathogens, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy (a lighted flexible tube with a camera on the end), barium lower GI X-Rays, MRI of the small bowel, or a CT Scan.

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease are intermittent diseases with periods of exacerbated symptoms and periods of time where the patient is symptom free. Crohn’s disease will usually have patchy areas of inflammation in/on the body where Ulcerative Colitis is usually localized in one area (large intestine).

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns disease AREN’T autoimmune conditions like mainstream medicine determines them to be. The diseases are in fact caused by Mycobacterium Avium Paratuberculosis (MAP) infection.

MAP and UC / Crohns Disease

Mycobacterium is a genius of bacteria that can cause serious diseases in mammals like tuberculosis and leprosy. A form of mycobacterium called Mycobacterium Avium Paratuberculosis is a pathogenic bacteria found in the gut of ruminant animals like cows and causes Johne’s disease (paratuberculosis) in cattle.

Paratuberculosis causes diarrhea and wasting in the cattle and also causes the cattle to develop inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment of paratuberculosis in cattle is limited because of the cost of using human treatments for mycobacterium infection. Usually the most cost effective measure is to destroy the infected herd.

MAP is recently being discovered as a zoological disease (a disease that can be transferred from animals to humans or vice versa). MAP can be transferred to humans from them coming in contact with cattle feces, drinking improperly treated cattle farm runoff water, or ingesting improperly treated milk and dairy products from cattle. There is some literature that points to dairy farmers who come into contact with cattle feces have developed Ulcerative Colitis. The scientific literature concludes that humans are mainly exposed to MAP from ingestion of milk. The proposed reason is that the bacteria in milk might be both more invasive and populous then other routes of exposure.

When mainstream medicine indentifies MAP in patients who have either Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s disease that test positive for the infection and the disease, MAP as the reason for it is dismissed. The information is only looked as a correlation between MAP and the two similar diseases. MAP is indeed the main cause of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease in humans. One of the deciding factors in whether a person gets Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s disease from the same mycobacterium seems to be the dosage of MAP that a person becomes infected with. Small doses of MAP seem to cause Ulcerative Colitis, were large doses of MAP seem to cause Crohn’s Disease in patients.

The scientific literature also points to the age of infection being important as well. Adult patients tend to develop Ulcerative Colitis and children tend to develop Crohn’s Disease. Crohn’s disease is usually undetectable in the body until early adulthood. Infant males and adult females according to the literature seem to contract Crohn’s disease. The reason why infant males might develop Crohn’s disease instead of Ulcerative Colitis is that they might have weaker immune systems instead of infant females who have a higher functioning immune system. Adult males and infant females tend to contract Ulcerative Colitis instead of Crohns.

The deciding factors of whether someone develops Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s disease is the dose, the route of infection (drinking milk or water, handling or breathing in aerosolized cow feces), the age in which one is infected, a patients genes and gender. Finally, in a study MAP was discovered in 60% of tissues in patients with Crohn’s disease and 40% of patients with Ulcerative Colitis. Sadly, the participants in this study re-diagnosed the patients with Ulcerative Colitis and reclassified them with Crohn’s diseases. The researchers did this instead of concluding that MAP was the cause of both.

Crohn’s Disease Protocol

Magnesium is essential to your digestive health. Magnesium is used as some of the building blocks of the body’s digestive enzymes. It is also used by the colon as an osmotic laxative. Magnesium also helps keep the intestines from contracting too frequently as well.

Majority of Americans are deficient in Magnesium (could be as high as 80%), and this will cause the already epidemic of diabetes and heart disease to explode! Now you have probably had a magnesium blood test in your adult life and the test results came back as normal. Well don’t feel relived just yet! Your body’s total magnesium that is reflected on the results of the blood test is only about 2%, and your body does whatever it can to keep this level normal. If this level isn’t maintained you could suffer from heart arrhythmia and even possibly have a heart attack! Majority of Americans are deficient in magnesium, in their bones, organs and even on a cellular level. The only way to get an adequate count of total magnesium is to have your doctor order a magnesium EXA test.

Magnesium is important in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body. It also helps regulate blood sugar in the body. It also helps to relax the muscles including blood vessels. It also chelates extra Calcium in the body; this keeps the arteries from hardening due to excess calcium. Magnesium can also help lower blood pressure as well as help with anxiety.

There are many types of magnesium and each has its own functions, but the best form I can recommend is Magnesium Glycinate. You absorb the most elemental magnesium from Glycinate. The extra Glycine also as an amino acid helps relax nerves and muscles, and helps relieve anxiety.

Tests for Magnesium Deficiency

Magnesium Serum Test – This is the most common magnesium test preformed and is the test that is also the most inaccurate. Less than 1% of the body’s total magnesium is in the blood plasma and the body does whatever it can to keep that number regular. If you score low on a plasma test then you are in dire need of magnesium, and you are definitely deficient in your bones, organs, and muscles.
Magnesium RBC Test – This is a better diagnostic test that quantifies the amount of magnesium stored in your blood cells and bones. You want a score greater than 6mg/dl to assure good magnesium reserves stored in your body.
Magnesium EXA Test – This is the best test to determine magnesium deficiency. During this test your cheek buccal cells are scraped, so that levels of magnesium stored in your cells, bones, and muscles can be determined. This is the most accurate test for magnesium available.

Different Forms of Magnesium

Best forms of Magnesium:

Magnesium Glycinate – The most bioavailable form of Magnesium. The extra glycine as an amino acid can help with sleep and reduce anxiety. It is the least likely to cause loose stools. Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium Malate – Magnesium malate is important for people who have a lot of fatigue, and can be especially helpful in patients that suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Magnesium Malate should be taken during the day with meals. The extra malic acid will increase stomach acid and nutrient assimilation.

Magnesium Chloride – Magnesium Chloride is one of the best forms of magnesium for people with Gerd or stomach problems. It must be taken with food because the extra chloride will definitely make extra HCL in the stomach. Magnesium Chloride can also be used topically, which is known as transdermal magnesium.
Magnesium Taurate – Magnesium Taurate is a lifesaver for people with heart disease. The extra taurine as an amino acid has been shown in studies to help the heart function better. Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium Citrate – Magnesium Citrate should mostly only be used for bowel irrigation and regulation in most people. If you have problems with constipation this is the magnesium you take. It should also be taken with meals because the extra citric acid will increase stomach acid and assimilation. The only magnesium citrate I recommend is Natural Calm.

Magnesium Sulfate – Magnesium sulfate is only used in the medical world to stop pre-eclampsia, and used by a lot of patients in hot baths in the form of epsom salt. Magnesium Sulfate has okay absorption, but it can leave some extra organic sulfur in the body which for most people can be a good thing unless you have a sulfur allergy. It can be absorbed through the skin. It can help heal muscle sprains better than other forms of magnesium because of greater skin permeability. Taken either when soaking in a bath (Epsom Salt) or before bed.

Magnesium Arginate – The extra Arginine is good for increasing blood flow. Arginine is used by body builders to increase blood flow to muscles. Magnesium Arginate should be taken with meals throughout the day due to the possibility of increased energy.

Magnesium Lysinate – A good source of magnesium and the amino acid lysine. Lysine is an excellent anti-viral. Taken before bed.

Magnesium Ascorbate – Magnesium Ascorbate is good source of both magnesium and vitamin C. This form of magnesium can cause some loose stools. Taken before bed.

Magnesium ZMK- A great form of magnesium that uses magnesium from all of the krebs cycle: Citrate, Fumarate, Malate, Succinate & Alpha-Keto-Glutarate. This supplement form of magnesium, ZMK, is great for athletes and is very good for recovery. ZMK magnesium supplement should be taken before bed because it is a complete supplement.

Magnesium Fumerate, Succinate, Alpha-Keto Glutarate – See Magnesium ZMK, All Krebs Cycle forms of magnesium. Taken during the day with meals.

Magnesium Carbonate – Probably the least likely form of magnesium I can recommend. Has one of lowest forms of absorption and makes a good laxative. Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium With Special Uses

Magnesium Orotate – This is one rarer known forms of magnesium but let me tell you. If a patient just had a surgery or exercises frequently then it can be a godsend for them. The extra orotate will help muscle regeneration. Take only for a short time, because the extra orotate will increase uric acid levels, and women should stay away from it since it can be mutagenic (Granted it has only been found mutagenic in rats in vivo, rats are different biologically than humans). Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium L-Threonate – Not enough In Vivo research yet, but it may greatly increase magnesium concentration in the brain and spinal column. This increase in magnesium has been theorized to increase cognitive function. L-Threonate is an isomer of ascorbic acid. *New research has shown that it increases the concentration about the same as Magnesium Sulfate, granted magnesium sulfate is generally injected though, and this might be the difference. Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium Peroxide – ONLY AS COLON CLEANSER. Taken before bed.

Garbage forms of Magnesium

Most of the forms of magnesium that are about to be listed are garbage because they either do damage in the body or are very poorly absorbed. Magnesium Asparate has extra aspartic acid, even though aspartic acid is an amino acid, too much aspartic acid is believed to be neurotoxic. Magnesium Hydroxide and Magnesium Oxide aren’t recommended because they are poorly absorbed. Magnesium Lactate can cause and increase in lactic acid buildup therefore not recommended.

Magnesium Aspartate – Absorption isn’t worth extra Aspartic Acid. Too much Aspartic Acid is neurotoxic. Can you say ASPARTAME? Taken at bedtime. This includes magnesium ZMA supplements.

Magnesium Pidolate – Absorption is DEFINATELY not worth the extra free glutamic acid. Too much free glutamic acid can be excitotoxic and neurotoxic. Can you say MSG? Taken with meals.

Magnesium Hydroxide – Not greatly absorbed, most of the magnesium is released into the bowels. Most commercial preparations (Milk of Magnesium) have sodium hypochlorite added (bleach). Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium Oxide – VERY POORLY ABSORBED – out of 400 mg only AT MOST 80 mg of magnesium absorbed by the body. One of the worst forms of magnesium, and the most common form recommended by doctors. Taken at Bedtime.

Magnesium Lactate – Excess Lactic Acid is FUN! Not taken at all.
When and How Much To Take Magnesium

Magnesium is a natural antacid, unless chelated with an acid or chloride which stimulates HCL. For this reason I have broken up the different forms of magnesium and when they should be taken in the guide above. In the guide, I have the information when the magnesium should be taken, if the magnesium should be taken with a meal to stimulate stomach acid production or if the magnesium should be taken at bedtime.

The average patient should take at least 600 mg of elemental magnesium for 4-6 months then 400 mg thereafter for maintenance. If the patient weighs less than 100 pounds, 600 mg of elemental magnesium should be taken for 2 months and then 400 mg thereafter. It is rare for one to overdose on magnesium as long as their kidneys are functioning normally.

Hi Chris, I hope your story & mine can help to get the word out to as many people as possible. I have tried my best to tell friends & loved ones about this, but they don’t believe me.

Sadly I have had family members who refused to even try it, thinking it was not true. They only believed what their doctor said about chemo & radiation, and they passed away within a year after being treated with chemo & radiation.

I was diagnosed with leukemia in 2000, and all I was told was that it was related to bone cancer where it starts in the bone marrow.

How it started:

I was sent to the cancer specialist by my neurologist as he had to check my blood levels every 6 months because I was taking Dilantin to control seizures as I have epilepsy. My neurologist told me in his office that he had been watching my blood, and that over the last ten years my white count has been rising every year, and that it was finally so high that he was sending me to a cancer specialist at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tn. I went to the cancer specialist. He ran several blood tests, told me I had leukemia and that I would need chemo treatments. He told me to come back in two weeks.

After I was diagnosed, my mother told me about a lady friend of hers who was given three months to live as she had stage 4 cancer. This lady & her husband went to another country where they put her on a veggie diet, and gave her so much carrot juice that her skin turned orange from all the Vitamin A, but this woman got rid of her cancer & lived for another 20+ years where she finally died of old age.

I figured if it worked for her, then maybe it would work for me. So I prayed that God would guide me in finding everything that would help me fight cancer naturally.

I got on my computer and found articles about how raw garlic & onion help to fight cancer. Then I bought a book on vitamins called Earl Mindell’s Vitamin Bible to see which ones did what as far as helping blood, immune system…etc,

Of everything I found, I decided to drink carrot juice, eat raw carrots, take a clove of raw garlic before breakfast each day, and eat about 1/4 of a raw onion every day with my supper time meal.

For lunch I would eat two full size raw carrots with what ever else I chose to have for lunch be it a salad or sandwich.
At supper time I would eat at least 1/4 and sometimes 1/2 of an raw sweet onion with what ever we had for supper be it green beans, corn, and mashed potatoes, with broiled chicken or fish to a salad or some type of pasta dish.

The garlic is strong raw, So I decided to cut the clove of garlic into small sections that I could swallow whole like a pill, and chase it with water.

[Chris says: I did the exact same thing with garlic!]

As far as supplements, I took a regular multivitamin from Nature Made. I also bought the same brand of Vitamin A, C, E, B6, and B12. I chose these vitamins because I had read that A & C help build the immune system, E helps with blood flow, B6 for energy & B12 for proper formation of blood cells plus boosting energy as well.

I took the single vitamins along with the regular mulit-vitamin in the morning just before breakfast after I took the raw garlic. Then I would then have my breakfast which included a small glass of orange juice, a piece of toast, and two scrambled eggs.

I did this every day for a few weeks. When I went back to the cancer specialist, they ran a blood test. The doctor came back into the room and said something was wrong & that they needed to take more blood and run more tests. Then finally the doctor came into the room scratching his head, and said, “Mr Powell I was about to start you on chemo, but somehow your white cell count is back to normal, you don’t have cancer!!”

I did not tell the doctor what I did because I knew he would think I was crazy, and would not believe it anyway.

My wife and I left the hospital with a big grin on our face & thanked God for showing us what to do to get rid of this leukemia which they say has no cure!

[Chris says: Garlic and onions are two of the top 10 anti-cancer vegetables]

3 years later (2004)

I had stopped drinking carrot juice & taking garlic. I started vomiting every morning. I had back pain, problems with my hearing & eye sight, and trouble walking due to vertigo. I went to the doctor who ordered an MRI which showed a 7 millimeter tumor on my brain that was pushing against the optic nerve.

Due to the position of the tumor, my neurologist did not want to operate because it could cause me to become blind or paralyzed or both. He said as long as it does not start growing larger, then he wanted to leave it alone.

Since I got rid of cancer with carrot juice, garlic & onion before, I decided to got back on them to see if they would get rid of this tumor. I started on the garlic & onion again, but did not drink much carrot juice or eat carrots very often. In 2008 I had another MRI scan to see if the tumor had grown.

The tumor was still there, but thankfully had not grown. That got me to thinking that maybe I needed to get serious with the carrot juice again!!

I was given a heavy duty Champion Juicer by my mom and I started using it to juice carrots. I also drank Bolthouse Farms carrot juice from the store.

I drank 10oz of carrot juice every morning, and 10 oz again between 5-6pm everyday for eight months. After eight months of drinking the carrot juice twice daily, combined with taking the garlic & onion daily, & eating raw carrots each day, I went for another MRI scan in 2011 and the tumor had shrank to the point it could not be seen on MRI scan!!!

I still drink Carrot juice daily!! And I take the raw garlic three times per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and I still eat raw onion three times per week, doing all this to prevent the cancer from coming back, and so far it is working. I am cancer free, and my tumor is gone!!

I now am juicing other veggies as well, as it has made a believer out of me and my wife. We both have seen that this really works, not once, but twice!!

Thank you Chris for sharing your story, I hope that others will try this and beat their cancer as you and I have.

Sincerely Thanks,

A recent Reuters’ article opened with the following stunning sentence:

“Long-term high-dose use of painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac is ‘equally hazardous’ in terms of heart attack risk as use of the drug Vioxx, which was withdrawn due to its potential dangers, researchers said.”

The 2004 Vioxx recall, as you may remember, was spurred by the nearly 30,000 excess cases of heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths caused by the drug between 1999-2003. Despite the fact that scientific research had accumulated as early as 2000 linking Vioxx to increased heart attacks and strokes, the drug’s manufacturer Merck, and the FDA, remained silent as the death toll steadily increased.

The Reuters report focused on new research published in Lancet indicating the risk of heart attack increases as much as a third and the risk of heart failure doubles among heavier users of NSAID drugs.

INFLAMED: Our Default Bodily State

Why are so many folks taking NSAID drugs like ibuprofen anyway?

Pain and unhealthy levels of inflammation are fast becoming default bodily states in the industrialized world. While in most cases we can adjust the underlying pro-inflammatory conditions by altering our diet, and reducing stress and environmental chemical exposures, these approaches take time, discipline and energy, and sometimes we just want the pain to stop now. In those often compulsive moments we find ourselves popping an over-the-counter pill to kill the pain.

The problem with this approach is that, if we do it often enough, we may kill ourselves along with the pain…

Ibuprofen really is a perfect example of this. As mentioned above, this petrochemical-derivative has been linked to significantly increased risk of heart attack and increased cardiac and all-cause mortality (when combined with aspirin), with over two dozen serious adverse health effects, including:

Anemia[1]

DNA Damage[2]

Hearing Loss[3]

Hypertension[4]

Influenza Mortality[5]

Miscarriage[6]

Ibuprofen is, in fact, not unique in elevating cardiovascular disease risk and/or mortality. The entire category of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) appears to have this under-recognized dark side; cardiovascular disease and cardiac mortality score highest on the list of over 100 unintended adverse health effects associated with their use. See also our analysis of the rarely acknowledged dark side to aspirin: The Evidence Against Aspirin And For Natural Alternatives.

So, what does one do? Pain is pain. Whether it happens to you, or you witness it in another (which can be worse), finding relief is a top priority.

Research on Natural Alternatives To Ibuprofen

Here is some evidence-based research on alternatives to ibuprofen, sourced from the National Library of Medicine:

Ginger – A 2009 study found that ginger capsules (250 mg, four times daily) were as effective as the drugs mefenamic acid and ibuprofen for relieving pain in women associated with their menstrual cycle (primary dysmenorrhea). [7]

Topical Arnica – A 2007 human study found that topical treatment with arnica was as effective as ibuprofen for hand osteoarthritis, but with lower incidence of side effects.[8]

Combination: Astaxanthin, Ginkgo biloba and Vitamin C – A 2011 animal study found this combination to be equal to or better than ibuprofen for reducing asthma-associated respiratory inflammation.[9]

Chinese Skullcap (baicalin) – A 2003 animal study found that a compound in Chinese skullcap known as baicalin was equipotent to ibuprofen in reducing pain.[10]

Omega-3 fatty acids: A 2006 human study found that omega-3 fatty acids (between 1200-2400 mg daily) were as effective as ibuprofen in reducing arthritis pain, but with the added benefit of having less side effects.[11]

Panax Ginseng – A 2008 animal study found that panax ginseng had analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity similar to ibuprofen, indicating its possible anti-rheumatoid arthritis properties.[12]

St. John’s Wort – A 2004 animal study found that St. John’s wort was twice as effective as ibuprofen as a pain-killer.[13]

Anthrocyanins from Sweet Cherries & Raspberries – A 2001 study cell study found that anthrocyanins extracted from raspberries and sweet cherries were as effective as ibuprofen and naproxen at suppressing the inflammation-associated enzyme known as cyclooxygenase-1 and 2.[14]

Holy Basil – A 2000 study found that holy basil contains compounds with anti-inflammatory activity comparable to ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin.[15]

Olive Oil (oleocanthal) – a compound found within olive oil known as oleocanthal has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties similar to ibuprofen.[16]

There are, of course, hundreds of additional substances which have been studied for their pain-killing and/or anti-inflammatory effects, and there are also aromatherapeutic approaches that do not require the ingestion of anything at all, but there is also a danger here. When we think of taking an alternative pain-killer to ibuprofen, we are still thinking within the palliative, allopathic medical model: suppress the symptom, and go on about our business. It would behoove us to look deeper into what is causing our pain. And when possible, remove the cause(s). And that often requires a dramatic dietary shift away from pro-inflammatory foods, many of which most Westerners still consider absolutely delightful, e.g. wheat, dairy, nighshade vegetables and even wheat-free grains, etc.
