4 Natural Treatments Relieve Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

Rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is believed to be an incurable auto-immune disease, affecting primarily the tissue around the body’s joints, especially those of the hands and wrists. The disease can also affect other bodily tissue including organs. Redness, swelling, inflammation, and extreme joint pain characterize the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, with long term results being severe joint damage and deformity. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are periodic, with lengthy episodes alternating with times of total remission. Conventional treatment is aimed at management of joint pain and prevention against additional deformity. There are a number of home and folk remedies that alleviate RA symptoms, day and night, to encourage a better quality of life.

Baking soda for pain relief from rheumatoid arthritis
Drink baking soda mixed with water to help alkalize the blood, neutralize toxins and control pain from rheumatoid arthritis. The body becomes more acidic during the night, a time when pain is felt more acutely.  Mix ½ tsp. baking soda in 8 oz. of water and drink before bedtime to bring about a more alkaline-forming condition to manage pain. This mixture can be continued throughout the day, up to a total of 2 tsp. of baking soda consumed. Use caution and speak to your doctor before using baking soda if you have hypertension, because the baking soda and water combo can raise blood pressure.

Homeopathic Rhus toxicodendron for RA pain relief
Rhus Tox was reviewed in a double-blind study reported by the Complementary and Alternative (CAM) Review Board in September 2009, and found effective in the treatment for RA pain. If you experience pain and stiffness from rheumatoid arthritis, especially first thing in the morning on rising, then Rhus tox may offer relief. The remedy is indicated when the pain hurts more with initial motion of the painful joint and then feels better after continued movement. Additionally, the pain is usually aggravated during wet, cold weather. You may feel restless at night in bed with the need to continually move around to get relief.
Turmeric, bromelain and ginger relieve arthritis pain
The anti-inflammatory herbs ginger and turmeric combined with bromelain, an enzyme derived from pineapple, are known to relieve rheumatoid arthritis pain. All three substances should be taken at the same time, and in between meals for best effects. This combination can thin the blood, so if you take blood thinning medicines, consult your healthcare practitioner first.
Add Omega-3 fatty acids to your diet for pain relief
Include fish oil high in omega-3 fatty acids in your diet to support joints and reduce pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Fish oil supplementation relieves inflammation in joint tissue and reduces swelling. Eat fatty fish such as salmon and tuna. If fish is not for you, take a supplement of pharmaceutical grade fish oil such as Omega Plus, which is free from impurities.
These methods can be used together to fight arthritis pain and inflammation; however, do not take everything at the same time. Experiment to see what works best for you for pain relief from rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.
