Those searching for the key to health and longevity need look no further. Scientists now conclude that regular physical activity1 prevents multiple diseases that plague our society as well as being a proven path to the Fountain of Youth.
The new study is a comprehensive review of 40 scientific papers published between 2006 – 2010. Risks for several dozen diseases were reduced, including coronary heart disease, stroke, various cancers, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, depression, dementia, obesity and high blood pressure. On the positive side, consistent exercise improves quality of life and facilitates anti-aging gene function. Benefit is seen with 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.
“Physical inactivity results in widespread pathophysiological changes to our bodies. It appears that our bodies have evolved to function optimally on a certain level of physically activity that many of us simply do not achieve in our modern, sedentary lifestyles. Study author, Leslie Alford from the University of East Anglia states, “What is clear from the research is that men and women of all ages should be encouraged to be more physically active for the sake of their long-term health.”
