Artificial sweeteners damage gut health

hose looking to shed a few pounds by using artificial sweeteners to cut calories may not only be sabotaging their diets, but could be putting themselves at risk for diabetes and related health threats. Let me put this another way: ‘this stuff is crap AND toxic!

That’s basically the conclusion that can be drawn from study results published in the journal Nature by researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. But, of course, if we ask the Food and Drug Administration – they would say ‘it’s safe.’ (yeah right)

The Eight Most Damaging Ingredients to Watch for on Food Labels

shopping grocery cart foodProcessed foods are loaded with preservatives, artificial colors, and artificial flavorings, which is one of the reasons that I recommend avoiding them. Once you become a label reader, you’ll realize just how ubiquitous they are.

The best way to avoid toxic chemical additives is to consume only fresh whole foods. But practically speaking, this can be difficult for many people to accomplish, at least 100 percent of the time. Chances are that, despite your best efforts, you’ll have a processed food or two somewhere in your diet.

Therefore, it’s good to know which of the thousands of chemical additives are the most dangerous and should be avoided at all cost when you spot them on a food label.

An article recently posted on One Green Planet1 highlights eight particularly pernicious ingredients that you and your kids are probably eating. There seems to be good consensus about the worst of the worst, as seven of those were also dubbed the “Scary Seven”2 by Andrea Donsky of Naturally Savvy.

If you notice any of these on a food label, put it right back on the shelf! While I agree with all of One Green Planet’s choices, here I’ve selected my own “worst of the worst” ingredients found in processed foods. (more…)

Artificial Sweeteners Could Be Sabotaging Your Diet

http://www.forzabykemp.com/wp-content/uploads/Artificial-sweetener.jpgTHERE’S NO DOUBT about it. Artificial sweeteners cause obesity.

I always thought it was funny to see a very large person order a Big Mac, large fries — and top it off with a Diet Coke. I also found it peculiar that I rarely saw thin people drinking diet sodas. So I began to wonder if there could be a link between diet beverages or artificial sweeteners and obesity. As I began to explore this notion, I discovered a number of different research findings that pointed to this very phenomenon. (more…)

Avoid 100 Dangerous Food Additives Causing ADHD, Asthma and Cancer

Food industry additives and colors are one major cause of ADHD, asthma and cancer creating a toxic environment for our children’s health. Even medicines for babies and young children frequently contain these additives banned from foods and drinks and targeted at children under three years of age.

Artificial flavors and colors means it is derived from a chemical made in a laboratory and has no nutritional value. Every single artificial flavor and color in the food industry has some kind of detrimental health effect. These include neurotoxicity, organ, developmental, reproductive toxicity, allergies and cancer.

Two recent British studies found that several food dyes, as well as the common preservative sodium benzoate have an adverse effect on some children’s behavior. Researchers said the increase in ADHD diagnoses could be partly to blame on the preservative.

“It can affect their focus, their concentration. They become more easily distractible, become more impulsive. I think we’re looking at a whole population of kids with skewed immune systems,” said Dr. Kenneth Bock, who wrote a book that supports the theory that food additives could lead to hyperactivity in children. The Bitter Truth About Splenda

The Bitter Truth About Splenda

Suspiciously Sweet: How Artificial Sweeteners Can Hinder Weight Loss

You may have read my post last week about sugar, its addictive qualities, and its effects on metabolism, entitled, “Spike, Crash and Burn: How Even a Little Sugar Could Be Sabotaging Your Weight Loss and Workouts”.  Blood sugar and its effect on metabolism is an extremely important piece of the weight loss and fitness puzzle.  As I explained, the spikes and crashes that sugar creates in our bodies can cause our metabolism to go into survival mode.  These energy ups and downs send signals to our body that we don’t have a consistent source of energy to keep us moving.  The body interprets this is a need to conserve energy, so it begins storing fat instead of burning it.  In this survival mode, we may find ourselves working out regularly and not losing weight at all. Aspartame: More Unsavoury Side Effects

There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption. It seems surreal, but true. How can one chemical create such chaos? Aspartame dissolves into solution and can therefore travel throughout the body and deposit within any tissue.

The body digests aspartame unlike saccharin, which does not break down within humans. The multitudes of aspartame side effects are indicative to your genetic individuality and physical weaknesses. It is important to identify which side effects aspartame is creating within you. (more…)
