No Link Between Butter And Cardiovascular Disease

No link has been found between consuming butter and an increased risk of heart disease or stroke, instead finding that butter might actually be protective against type 2 diabetes.

Heart disease was rare in developed nations at the turn of the century. Between 1920 and 1960, the incidence of heart disease rose precipitously to become the number one killer. During the same period butter consumption plummeted from eighteen pounds per person per year to four.

It doesn’t take a Ph.D. in statistics to conclude that butter is not a cause. Actually butter contains many nutrients that protect us from heart disease. First among these is vitamin A which is needed for the health of the thyroid and adrenal glands, both of which play a role in maintaining the proper functioning of the heart and cardiovascular system. Abnormalities of the heart and larger blood vessels occur in babies born to vitamin A deficient mothers. Butter was and is still is recognized by many as the most easily absorbed source of vitamin A.

Butter contains lecithin, a substance that assists in the proper assimilation and metabolism of cholesterol and other fat constituents. (more…)

It’s Foolish to Pretend You Can Fool Mother Nature: Butter is Better!

mother natureFool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me! Is butter really bad?
Even back in the 60s and 70s sufficient scientific evidence indicated that butter was far better than margarine for your health. Nevertheless, the fake, chemically laced, processed food industry along with its partner in crime junk science relentlessly convinced millions upon millions of Americans to eat margarine instead, because it was “scientifically” proven to be superior to butter for health reasons. The establishment mantra repeated over and over again has been that saturated fats make you obese and sick and are the primary culprit behind the explosion in cardiovascular disease. But is it true?

Consider this from LewRockwell.com:

Feeding high doses of fat and cholesterol to omnivores, like rats and dogs, does not produce atherosclerotic lesions in them …
In fact, it turns out that people who have highest percentage of saturated fat in their diets have the lowest risk of heart disease …
The last word on this subject should go to Julia Child … Enjoy eating saturated fats, they’re good for you!” [1] (more…)

Butter and the Folly of Fake Fats

Butter has been maligned as unhealthy for the past few decades. Fortunately, the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) has disagreed. The WAPF was started many decades ago by Weston Price, DDS. He and his wife traveled to isolated locations and examined the diets of healthy people not influenced by civilization.

Others have discovered the truth about butter and disagree with butter’s bad rap as well. Butter is healthier for you than all the substitutes designed to replace butter, which actually damage your health. Instead of the margarine promo phrase “better than butter”, you might mentally replace that phrase with “butter is better”.

The Latest Scoop on Wonder Nutrient Vitamin K2

cheese

I had the privilege of meeting a number of people that I greatly admire at the recent Wise Traditions International Conference, one of whom wrote perhaps the most intriguing book I read last year- Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue, author of Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox.

Vitamin K2 is the wonder nutrient that modern science has only just started to understand. The reason this vitamin is so exciting to those of us who espouse traditional diet is because it was first identified by Dr. Chris Masterjohn as the elusive “Activator X” contained in all the foods considered sacred by Ancestral Societies and researched/written about by Dr. Weston A. Price in his nutritional classic, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.

Vitamin K2 along with the other fat soluble activators A and D are synergistically responsible for the vibrant health and extremely high resistance to aging and degenerative disease of Traditional Cultures and described in detail in Dr. Price’s groundbreaking book using both words and pictures. 6 Healthiest Cooking Oils

healthiest cooking oils

I often get asked which are the healthiest cooking oils for a vegetarian or vegan. I have been outspoken about not using canola, vegetable soybean oil (You can read more about this in my post 5 Cooking Oils You Think Are Healthy…But Aren’t. Make sure you sign up for my email list to get updates). I know many vegans have grown accustomed to using canola or earth balance as their staple oil, so this is a list of oils that are healthy and useful for vegetarian or vegan cooking. Not all of the oils are vegan, but there are some vegan choices on the list. (more…)

The Diet Dictocrats Told Us To Drop Butter and Look What Happened

The Diet Dictocrats told us to drop butter decades ago and switch to a so-called healthier substitute called margarine made with what they claimed would be less harmful polyunsaturated fats. Their promise was it would prevent disease. People around the globe questioned this advice, especially those who have valued butter for its life-sustaining properties for millennia. Today we know that butter is light years healthier than margarine ever could be. It’s a lesson to never go against the wisdom of our ancestors and always distrust corporate and malicious propaganda designed to generate profits not health.

Why Butter Is A Health Food

Butter is a health food. There, I said it. I don’t just love butter because it tastes better than margarine. I don’t just love it because I think it’s a healthier alternative than margarine. I actually believe, bones to britches, that butter is good for you.

The other day someone left this comment on a Facebook post of mine, “Only an idiot would believe butter is actually a health food. Yes, it’s better than margarine, but it is by no means good for you.” Only an idiot? Really?

Name-calling aside, let’s use our brains. Shall we? What makes butter a health food?

Why You Should NEVER Eat Vegetable Oil or Margarine!

Aside from “healthy whole grains,” vegetable oils and margarine are some of the most misunderstood and over-recommended foods in the health community. You’ve probably heard these referred to as “heart healthy oils,” a good alternative to those “artery clogging saturated fats.”

These oils are supposed to help lower cholesterol and blood pressure, increase weight loss and somehow improve overall health.

Only one problem…. again, science doesn’t back these claims up!

What Are Vegetable Oils /Margarine?

Vegetable oils (and margarine, made from these oils) are oils extracted from seeds like the rapeseed (canola oil) soybean (soybean oil), corn, sunflower, safflower, etc. They were practically non-existent in our diets until the early 1900s when new chemical processes allowed them to be extracted. There is Nothing Smart About Smart Balance

I’ve had it. Everyone has her limits and I’ve reached mine.

If one more person who claims to eat healthy tells me that she uses Smart Balance, Earth Balance, or any of those health robbing butter substitute “spreads”, I think I’m going to scream.

A loud, obnoxious, ear piercing, wine glass shattering SCREAM!

You see, there is nothing “smart” about Smart Balance, unless of course you happen to be a shareholder of the company in which case you would be very happy with the cheap, rancid, genetically modified vegetable oils that are used to manufacture this butter substitute resulting in a very low cost of production and resultantly huge profit margins.

Don’t think for one moment that Smart Balance could possibly be made in the comfort of your own kitchen the way lovely yellow butter can easily be churned from cream in a bowl with a hand mixer. (more…)

5 Reasons Why Butter is a Superfood

5 reasons why butter is a superfood

One stick of butter in 24 hours

I ate a quarter pound of butter today. Yep, that is one whole stick. If you want to know how that is possible, let me explain:

  • 2 tbs. mixed into half a batch of Paleo Cornbread Muffins

  • 2 tbs. slathered on top of said muffins

  • 2 tbs. stirred into warm butternut squash pureé

  • 2 tbs. tossed with steamed carrots, salt, and chopped fresh thyme

You may be holding back a gag reflex after reading that. Perhaps you are still staring at your computer screen mute shock. In either case, you are probably wondering WHY I committed this senseless act of nutritional suicide.

I eat butter because I am on a mission to heal my body. And, believe it or not, butter is a healing superfood. Here’s why:

1. It’s the highest source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) (more…)
