Men who drink one 300ml can of soda per day are much more likely to require treatment for a serious form of cancer than those who never consumed the drink.
A 15-year study found those who drank 300ml of a fizzy drink a day — slightly less than a standard can — were 40 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than men who avoid the drinks.
Worryingly, the risk applied not to early-stage disease that was spotted via blood tests but to cancers that had progressed enough to cause symptoms. (more…)
After narrowly escaping a federal claim of false advertising with a “pomegranate” drink that contained a barely legal amount of pomegranate juice, now Coca-Cola faces a new issue: cancer-causing ingredients in its namesake beverage.
According to a recent report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a U.S. watchdog organization, the version of Coke sold in several countries, including Kenya and Brazil, still contains an elevated level of a chemical that has been linked to cancer in animals – months after the beverage giant made changes to Coca-Cola sold in the state of California. A nonprofit group is calling for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban artificial caramel coloring used in Coca-Cola, Pepsi and other foods because animal tests suggest the additive is contaminated with two cancer-causing chemicals. (more…)

Osteoporosis – Let’s start here, since if you are a woman who drinks lots of soda over an extended period of time, osteoporosis at a relatively young age is almost a sure thing. This is because of the extremely high acidity levels of high fructose corn syrup and sugar that cause calcium to be withdrawn from bone and dumped into the blood in an effort to keep blood acidity levels stable over time. This decrease in bone mineralization means bones become less dense and the decline into osteoporosis has begun. (more…)
