(Health Secrets) Can you imagine a supplement that protects every organ in the human body and has no significant side effects? This is the kind of claim that gets the FDA after the supplement industry, but in the case of lipoic acid, there’s plenty of research showing this claim may be true. What makes lipoic acid so special? Unlike drugs which possess a singularly defined molecular mechanism of action, lipoic acid is capable of producing multiple effects from its influence on a single gene.
Lipoic acid is a naturally occurring substance, essential for the function of different enzymes that take part in the mitochondria’s oxidative metabolism. (The mitochondria is the tiny furnace contained in each cell, in which food is burned and energy is produced – it is at the very core of life.) The excess production of free radicals occurring in this process results in oxidative stress being a big factor in the development of degenerative diseases. Lipoic acid has many biochemical functions in the human body to turn this process around:
- Functioning as antioxidants
- Chelating active metal ions
- Protecting against oxidized forms of other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E
- Modulating signaling transduction in several pathways
The antioxidant activity of citrus juices and other foods is undervalued. A new technique developed by researchers from the University of Granada for measuring this property generates values that are ten times higher than those indicated by current analysis methods. The results suggest that tables on the antioxidant capacities of food products that dieticians and health authorities use must be revised.
Orange juice and juices from other citrus fruits are considered healthy due to their high content of antioxidants, which help to reduce harmful free radicals in our body, but a new investigation shows that their benefits are greater than previously thought.
Citrus fruits are very high in vitamin C, which decreases the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol and testosterone are counterproductive, and even the slightest decrease in cortisol levels will help your body to preserve more of testosterone. They are also anti-estrogenic, and have a aromatase blocking effect. That’s mainly due to compounds called limonenes which have shown promise to both prevent and treat cancer. They effectively inhibit the conversion from testosterone to estrogen. Limonenes also strongly enhance detox enzymes in the liver increasing the body’s ability to process accumulated toxins.
One of my favorite health activists, Heather White from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), was interviewed at the Autoimmunity Summit today! She is trained as a lawyer and has worked in politics and law in Washington DC. Now she is a health advocate for EWG, a nonprofit which is referenced by experts all over the world.
The 10 American Study by EWG
EWG did a study called the 10 American Study – looking at chemicals such as DDT, mercury, Polychlorinated biphenyls, (PCB’s) etc. in the blood of 10 Americans.
They found up to 300 industrial toxic pollutants in the blood of these 10 Americans. They knew the exposures were not from the air, water or food. The exposures were from the womb because the 10 Americans were newborn babies.
I got the chills when I heard this. This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. (more…)
Raw goat whey is an excellent source of glutathione.
Glutathione is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants. It may also be the most useful nutritional supplement, except that it doesn’t absorb well when taken as a pill or in a capsule.
The good news is that your body produces its own glutathione. The bad news is that processed foods, pollution, prescription drugs, stress, trauma, aging, infections, and radiation all deplete glutathione levels.
Low glutathione levels leave you susceptible to unrestrained cell damage from oxidation caused by free radicals, which is associated with chronic infections, cancer, and other chronic diseases. The good news is that we are learning more about glutathione all the time.
What Makes Glutathione So Special?
Glutathione is called the master antioxidant because it can regenerate itself in the liver after each fill-up of free radicals and go back to work. Free radicals are often the byproduct of normal cellular metabolic oxidation and toxic overload, leading to autoimmune diseases, several cancers or heart attacks.
Antioxidants come to the rescue and usher out those free radicals, heavy metals and toxins if there are enough of them. The liver’s ability to generate or regenerate glutathione and enable cells to contain glutathione within them as intracellular glutathione is largely why it’s called the master antioxidant.
Until recently, the widely held belief has been that normal oral supplementation won’t help raise glutathione levels because oral glutathione won’t get past the stomach acids and into the small intestines to be absorbed into the blood. But a study explained in the next section indicates otherwise. (more…)

For the health of the nation to change, individuals must stop relying on pharmacies and must instead start creating their own farmacies at home.
While pharmacies carry drugs that cover up symptoms, a personal farmacy provides beneficial herbs, spices, roots, vegetables, nuts, fruits, barks, clays, seaweeds and berries that come straight from a garden or are wild crafted from nature. These natural substances don’t block normal bodily functions like pharma drugs do, but instead work in a purifying way at the cellular level without bringing all the harmful side effects. These natural substances are curative in a way that works with the body’s natural processes. More importantly, using natural substances is a great prevention strategy. (more…)
