Everyone knows that eating vegetables has profound health benefits. But, like all foods, not all vegetables are created the same. Sulforaphane is produced when the enzyme myrosinase converts glucoraphanin, a glucosinolate (natural compound found in some plants), through a chemical reaction induced by damage to the plant, such as cutting or chewing. As such, glucoraphanin is known as the precursor to sulforaphane.

6 Billion People Do Not Meet Vitamin E Levels Necessary For Cognitive and Cardiovascular Health

People who don’t get enough vitamin E in their diets appear to be more likely than others to show early signs of disease. Only a fifth of the world’s population are receiving the recommended vitamin E intake, a review has concluded, placing a heightened risk for conditions affecting the immune system, cognitive function and cardiovascular health.

Vitamin E does everything from ease exercise soreness, treating menstrual pain, preventing cancer and playing a central role in neurological and cardiovascular function. Adequate levels of vitamin E, an essential micronutrient, are especially critical for the very young, the elderly, and women who are or may become pregnant. Deficiency of the vitamin is occurring at an alarming frequency, and the effects of this are less obvious in the short-term affecting everything from fertility to Alzheimers.

No Link Between Butter And Cardiovascular Disease

No link has been found between consuming butter and an increased risk of heart disease or stroke, instead finding that butter might actually be protective against type 2 diabetes.

Heart disease was rare in developed nations at the turn of the century. Between 1920 and 1960, the incidence of heart disease rose precipitously to become the number one killer. During the same period butter consumption plummeted from eighteen pounds per person per year to four.

It doesn’t take a Ph.D. in statistics to conclude that butter is not a cause. Actually butter contains many nutrients that protect us from heart disease. First among these is vitamin A which is needed for the health of the thyroid and adrenal glands, both of which play a role in maintaining the proper functioning of the heart and cardiovascular system. Abnormalities of the heart and larger blood vessels occur in babies born to vitamin A deficient mothers. Butter was and is still is recognized by many as the most easily absorbed source of vitamin A.
