Coconut Oil Benefits for Digestive Health

Digestive Health and Weight Gain

When we are eating healthy whole foods with the absence of highly refined carbohydrates, weight gain should not be a problem. However, many people who have switched over to healthy diets, and have even limited their carbohydrate intake, still have problems losing weight. One reason is because many Americans suffer from some kind of digestive disorder that prevents them from properly digesting their food. Without a properly working digestive system, essential vitamins and minerals that are necessary to maintain proper weight may not be absorbed adequately from the foods we eat, even if we are eating healthy foods. Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns Disease

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease are both inflammatory bowel diseases that bring both misery and torment to the people diagnosed with them. These diseases drastically shorten both their quality and quantity of life. With proper diagnosis, information, and treatment, patients with these diseases can overcome their disorders.

Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is Ulcerative Colitis’s cousin and is an inflammatory disease of the entire digestive system, unlike Ulcerative Colitis which is generally only found in the colon. A person with Crohn’s disease has a lot of different symptoms which can make diagnosis of the disease difficult. This can make it a long time before a patient with Crohn’s is discovered and treated. The average age of disease onset in a patient who has Crohn’s disease is between the ages of 15 and 30.

Patients with Crohn’s disease have differing exaggerations and symptoms of their disease. Some digestive symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea usually without blood, increased risk of gallstones, frequent bowel movements (even more than twenty per day sometimes), bloating, and weight loss. Systemic symptoms include arthritis, inflammation of the eyes (uveitis, episcleritis), skin inflammation or infection, depression, oral disorders, and nutritional difficulties. (more…)

GUT WRENCHING! Tell FDA to remove toxin, making us sick, from food

Rates of digestive diseases are rising—ranging from widespread digestive discomfort (“belly bloat,” “spastic colon,” Irritable Bowel Syndrome) to serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases such as ulcerative colitis and colon cancer.

For decades, scientists conducting laboratory animal experiments using the common food additive carrageenan have found higher rates of gastrointestinal inflammation, colitis-like disease, and even colon cancer.

Carrageenan is a convenient and unique food additive for the food industry, and selling carrageenan is a profitable enterprise for a handful of chemical corporations. For decades, these companies have spread misinformation—often, outright lies—about carrageenan’s safety.

Carrageenan can be found in many foods, even foods labeled “natural” and “organic.” It is widely used in dairy products (chocolate milk, whipping cream, ice cream, nonfat sour cream), frozen dinners, dairy alternatives (soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk), prepared poultry and cold cuts, nutritional drinks, and even infant formula.

And who has been more than willing to listen to the corporate scientists rather than to the scientists funded by the National Institutes of Health? That’s right: the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In June 2012, the FDA rejected a citizen petition by the nation’s preeminent publicly funded scientist and carrageenan expert, who formally requested that carrageenan be removed from our food supply.

Root Causes of Autoimmune Illness

You have countless immune cells in every corner of your body that are constantly working to keep you healthy by identifying, packaging, and eliminating harmful substances that have made their way into your blood.

If your immune system falters and begins to identify some of your own tissues as being harmful or unnecessary, it will work to attack and eliminate these tissues through an inflammatory response that can cause pain and discomfort in many forms – this is how autoimmune illness develops. (more…)

Inflammatory bowel, ulcerative colitis linked to intestinal fungi

Bacteria in the gut play a crucial role in human health, and imbalances in bacterial populations can contribute to many disorders. New research suggests that fungi, though not as common in the intestines as bacteria, may also play a role in causing and modulating disease. (more…)

Hard-hitting interview highlights GMO dangers

In the April/May 2012 issue of Green American, which focuses primarily on GMOs and the harm they are causing, they interview IRT’s executive director Jeffrey M. Smith. Here are some excerpts:

Jeffrey Smith: ”When I speak to doctors around the country, they report seeing an increase in the incidence and severity of certain diseases, which they believe are GMO-related. Moreover, when these doctors take people off of GMO diets, they report that the symptoms – of migraines, gastro-intestinal disorders, weight problems, and more – start to disappear. (more…)

Scientists prove the healing effects of wheat grass juice and wheat grass extract

Wheat grass is composed of the young shoots of wheat before stalks form a head with grain. It contains no wheat gluten, and is considered by many natural health professionals to possess healing properties. Wheat grass is, by composition, a superfood. This is due to wheat grass’s heavy concentration of chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Wheat grass is usually consumed either as wheat grass powder or juice. It can be taken orally, or as an effective enema implant for detoxification. Clinical studies have confirmed that wheat grass juice and wheat grass extract do have healing properties. Wheat grass juice has been used clinically to treat ulcerative colitis, aid breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and act as a potent antioxidant. (more…)

95 Percent of Americans With Celiac Disease Go Undiagnosed

Celiac Disease is one of the most common genetic conditions in the world, but often goes undiagnosed. Approximately 95 percent of Americans with the disease go undiagnosed. Through this sponsorship, Cream of Rice will support and further the Foundation’s pursuit to provide a greater understanding of Celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, dietary compliance, future therapies, associated conditions and also the effect on family members.
