New research discovered that a cure for ovarian cancer can be found in an aromatic resin that grows in trees in Africa. What is this magical gum? Frankincense.
In an age where cancer is becoming so popular that almost everyone is thinking about how they can protect themselves from cancer risks even at a very young age, the research for prevention should be at the top of health matters. However this isn’t quite the case. While small amounts of overall funding is put into prevention research, larger, yet still small amounts, are being put into finding a cure. Unfortunately, those cures must provide a profitable return for drug manufacturers should they wish to see the light of day in mainstream practice. (more…)
Promoters of bio-identical hormones claim that they are anti-aging, increase sex drive, prevent cancer and have little to no risks or side effects. After all, when a person doesn’t have enough hormones, the solution is to give them more hormones right? It’s a short-sighted objective based on the far too frequent model of treating symptoms rather than the root causes of illness. Only clever marketing has duped millions of women into thinking that bio-identical hormones are any safer than the toxic FDA-approved hormone replacement products. They are not safe, not natural, and bluntly stated, are disease promoting drugs.
Many women assume that “natural” hormones would be better or safer — but the term “natural” is open to interpretation. Any product whose principal ingredient has an animal, plant, or mineral source is technically natural. It doesn’t matter whether the substance is ground, put into capsules, and sold over the counter — or extracted in a laboratory, manufactured by a pharmaceutical company, and made available only by prescription.

When researchers from l’Universite de Montreal recently tested the waters of the St. Lawrence River downstream of Montreal, they discovered levels of estrogen 90 times the normal rate. These estrogens were both the natural type (estradiol) occurring in all women and men, and synthetic estrogens, like the ones found in some contraceptive medications and medications used in hormone replacement therapy.
Although the original reason for the research study was to determine the cause of changes in the reproductive organs of fish, there are implications for humans as well. As many as one-third of a species of minnows in that portion of the St. Lawrence River were found to be developing ovaries within their testes. (more…)
The WideSpread Problem with Estrogen Dominance:
Aging and high levels of physical, chemical and emotional stress are associated with the loss of progesterone in women and testosterone in men. When these key hormones are depleted it causes a state of estrogen dominance. This state of estrogen dominance is one of the major factors associated with degenerative disease processes.
“As a species, we`re on a fast track to extinction,” says Ori Hofmekler, author of The Anti-Estrogenic Diet. “In the past few decades, men have lost 50% of their sperm count and within only one generation, the average man’s sperm count and testosterone have dropped by 20%. Women are no better. Staggering figures show that most women today are suffering from female disorders and three out of ten women between the ages of 35 to 60 will develop breast cancer.” (more…)
What is estrogen dominance? (It’s probably not what you think!)
by Dixie Mills, MD, FACS
I sometimes feel sorry for estrogen. It gets a bad rap for so many things. Women hear that too much estrogen causes breast disease (my specialty), and too little causes everything from hot flashes to hair loss in menopause. I also hear from many women with concerns about “estrogen dominance” — a state of high estrogen levels blamed for a wide range of distressing symptoms as well as fibroids, endometriosis, hypothyroidism and breast cancer, too.
While excessive estrogen can lead to problems, it’s a little more complicated than simply “too much estrogen.” To manage all your symptoms, it’s important to understand how your individual estrogen levels are related to your other hormones — particularly progesterone and testosterone. For example:
Some signs & symptoms of high estrogen-to-progesterone ratio
- Unwanted hair growth
- Breast tenderness
- Water retention
- Weight gain
- Cyclical migraines
- Mood swings
- Skin outbreaks
- Digestive imbalance
- Fuzzy thinking
- Irregular periods / anovulatory cycles
- Breakthrough bleeding, spotting
Some conditions associated with relatively high (or “unopposed”) estrogen levels (more…)
